Low Cost and No Cost Fun With Kids on the Eastside
By Kathleen F. Miller
Summer has arrived and school is about to end. Here are some fun low and no cost ideas for having fun with your kids this summer.
Get Wet!
Check out the free water play areas on the Eastside at Crossroads Park in Bellevue (164th and NE 8th Street) and Grasslawn Park in Redmond (148th and Old Redmond Road).
If you have teenagers, they’ll love Renton’s Henry Moses Aquatic Center at 1719 Maple Valley Highway. The center opens June 20th. Kids five to eighteen pay less than $10 and enjoy water slides, a wave pool and a “inner tube river”. More information at https://rentonwa.gov/living/default.aspx?id=190
Chism Beach Park is my pick for the best place for your kids to enjoy an outdoor swim and picnic. Located in Bellevue at 1175 96th Ave. S.E., it is superclean, with nearby restrooms, a playground, a safe and shallow swimming area and even superstrict lifeguards from late June to Labor Day.
Be In a Parade
On Saturday, July 11th, Redmond’s Derby Days will offer the chance for your child to be in a parade, enjoy free bouncy houses, delicious food, a sprinkler garden, and lots of free games and activities. http://www.redmond.gov/recreationarts/derbydays/default.asp
